For many years here at the BBB, we have been supporters of Derian House and believe that we have encouraged many of our readers to follow and support this most deserving cause. Now, more than ever is your help required. Government funding goes nowhere near enough to meet the running costs of the hospice and most of the annual 3.75 million pounds required to keep the hospice running has to be raised by public donation - That means me and you and at this festive time of the year we can give no greater gift than by making a donation, large or small, to this most deserving cause. Here is a brief history of the children's hospice.
Derian House Children’s Hospice was opened in 1993 and cares for children with life-threatening and life-shortening conditions, as well as providing support for their families. We are based in Chorley and currently support families from Lancashire and South Cumbria, as well as Sefton, Bolton, Wigan, Warrington and parts of Salford.
Derian House provides respite, palliative and end of life care, either at the hospice itself or through our ‘Derian at Home’ service, and are regarded as a centre of excellence within this field. In 2010 we opened ‘The Lodge’ which is a four-bed unit that caters for the unique needs of young people aged 16-25.
We are a registered charity and receive very little government funding, meaning we have to rely on our own efforts to raise most of the £3.75m we need to continue our work.
Registered Charity No. 1005165
