                       Out & About - Home & Abroad
(Where 'Home' is T'Brig and 'Abroad' is Anywhere Else)

Our new feature is packed with ideas of places to visit and activities to enjoy, both locally and further afield. Local stuff is supplied by some of our many readers, including news of events hot from the presses of South Ribble Council supplied to the BBB by popular local Councillor Barrie Yates.

                      A PICTURE WORTH A CAPTION!

A photo sent into us by Bob Downham of dastardly action on Bamber Bridge Railway Station. What did you think was happening? The best response will be published in next month's edition of the BBB

Come Dancing - For the young and not so young!

What a great way to get the kids of their phones and tablets. Why not give Tracey a ring and get your children to start using their legs as well as their fingers - You know it makes sense.

                                 A Plea from the heart!

It is difficult to understand what pleasure some younger members of our society get from antisocial behaviour such as the mindless activity of smashing windows in various properties. Regardless of our lack of understanding it is a problem that besets many communities, including here in Bamber Bridge.
The Carr Street Community Centre is the latest building to be targeted by these pathetic yobs, who believe that smashing windows in this well-used community building makes for a good night out. Hear what volunteer worker Martin Topping has to say about this mindless and costly activity in a letter to the BBB.

Can you please give a mention about Carr St Community Centre. I’m afraid that the windows are being used as target practice. There has been a number smashed in the last 6 weeks and this will cost the community centre £300, money which we don’t really have.
Unfortunate instances like this are the responsibility of the committee that run the centre, not South Ribble Council.
Can I ask the community, through the BBB, to spread the word that the Centre is not a derelict building. It’s is used by the whole town, usually the older end of the community as a way of meeting people through exercise, bingo, dance, and other activities. This unit is run by volunteers that could see this as a step too far, and give up the responsibility of maintaining it.
So can I plead with mums, dads, grandparents, aunties, uncles, and any friends of families with younger people that may be responsible for this senseless activity to please remind them of the distress they are causing and stop causing damage to the building.
I have to report the damage to the police as the centre ultimately belongs to South Ribble Council. and the last thing I want is to get anyone into trouble. Having said that, it is still wilful damage after all - damage that has to be paid for by somebody.

We at the BBB would like to think that Martin’s heartfelt words may prick a few consciences and the next deliveries to the centre will be envelopes containing perhaps a few quid to help pay for the damages!

A touch of Latin America comes to Bamber Bridge

It maybe the last tango in Paris or Halifax even but it's certainly not the case in Bamber Bridge. If you have ever wanted to learn how to dance the tango - Well now's your chance - and you don't have to travel to Argentine for this great opportunity as a trip to the Community Centre in Carr Street in Bamber Bridge is as far as you need to travel.

We are also informed that the above venue, run by Martin and Kath Topping, plays host to other dance nights throughout the year, and all monies raised are donated to local charities such as Derian House.

So if a terpsichoral tango, tripping the light fantastic or just plain old-fashioned dancing is your passion, then watch this space for news of future events. Remember that as well as having a great evening on the dance floor, you are also helping to put a smile on the faces of young people whose activities are restricted by their disabilities.

See below for the further fantastic amount raised for this most worthy cause, that relies heavily on public donations to provide this service. Also the letters of appreciation from Derian House.

Thanks again you for your support and we are looking forward to seeing you at the next class/event.

Keep smiling - Martin and Kath - Simply Tango.
